Yemen’s ruling body warns Houthi against escalation

The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council on Friday warned the Houthi militias against returning to the option of comprehensive escalation, stressing the readiness of the armed forces in all their military formations to deter any hostility.

This came during an emergency council meeting on Houthi threats to resume all-out war and the UN envoy’s message, which included a request for support from the council to launch UN-facilitated dialogue on recent economic developments, the Yemeni government news agency (SABA) reported.

Also discussed were ways to address such developments in a way that serves the highest interest of the Yemeni people and postpones the implementation of the decisions of the Central Bank of Yemen related to stopping banks that violate its decisions until next August, it said.

The council indicated that any Houthi war escalation would undermine the good efforts led by Saudi Arabia and Oman to end the war and restore the path of peace.

It also affirmed its adherence to a clear agenda to pa
rticipate in any dialogue on the economic file, and praised the reforms led by the government and the Central Bank of Yemen to improve living conditions.

It called on the Houthi militias “not to escape from internal and popular pressures and their living priorities by threatening disastrous actions and continuing to exaggerate the pain of the Palestinian people and their just cause after this propaganda approach has proven its falsity and its failure over the past years to change the convictions of the Yemeni people and regional and international positions.”
