Yemeni Pres. vows to track down killers of WFP staffer

Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Rashad al-Alimi said his council and government were resolute in tracking down the culprits in the murder of a World Food Program employee in the southwestern governorate of Taiz.

Al-Alimi made the pledge in a phone call, initiated by him, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday following the incident, according to Yemen News Agency (SABA).

On behalf of the PLC and the government, Al-Alimi expressed condolences to the UN chief and the WFP staff over the tragic incident.

On his part, Guterres expressed profound regret over the tragedy, saying it would not hamper the humanitarian interventions of the UN aid agencies in Yemen.

Earlier today, the UN World Food Program confirmed that Moayad Hameidi, a Jordanian national, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Turbah city, Taiz.
