Water Ministry, ACSAD Collaborate for Sustainable Solutions

Amman: The Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Saud, and the Director General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), Nasr Addin Obaid, discussed Wednesday various aspects of joint cooperation between the two sides.

The two parties emphasized the necessity of enhancing collaboration to advance the implementation of more water harvesting projects, climate predictions, and the adoption of the best modern harvesting techniques. They also discussed capacity building through specialized technical courses and enhancing the efficiency of irrigation water use, particularly in the Jordan Valley areas.

Abu Saud presented the current water situation in the Kingdom, especially considering the fluctuations in rainfall in recent years due to climate change. This has led to a significant shortage in preserving available water resources, particularly for citizens and host communities with a large number of refugees.

He highlighted the water sector’s efforts to address this critical w
ater reality, focusing on increasing water harvesting and utilizing state-of-the-art technologies in irrigation while prioritizing capacity building.

Abu Saud expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the ACSAD Center of the Arab League for their ongoing efforts to enable the water sector’s management to find solutions to various challenges.

Obaid underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Water. He emphasized the need to monitor all projects addressing climate change, employ modern technologies to counter its effects, and sustain cooperation in ways that benefit the water sector in Jordan.
