UN: Continuing conflict in Lebanon has disastrous consequences for children

Deputy Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund in Lebanon, Ettie Higgins, confirmed: “The continuation of the conflict in Lebanon will have disastrous consequences for all children there.”

The UN official said at a press conference in Geneva: “Monday’s explosion killed at least 35 children, which is more than the total number of children killed in the previous 11 months combined. There are more under the rubble.”

Since Monday morning, Israeli warplanes have begun carrying out large-scale strikes on residential centers in southern and eastern Lebanon.

For its part, the Lebanese Hezbollah party launched dozens of rockets towards northern Israel. The Lebanese government has previously called on the United Nations to intervene to stop the Israeli aggression.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health’s Emergency Center, the Israeli bombing of southern and eastern Lebanon killed 492 people and injured 1,645 others.
