UK Defence Secretary to quit politics in August

British Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace said Saturday he was resigning from politics at the next cabinet reshuffle, due in August.

In press remarks he said he would maintain his seat in the House of Commons after the cabinet reshuffle but would not stand for parliament in next year general elections.

MP Wallace, 53, from Wyre and Preston North constituency, noted that he would retain his parliamentary seat to spare the Conservatives the trouble of calling a snap election.
