UK announces USD 10 mln aid for Palestine

The UK Foreign Office announced on Tuesday the provision of basic services to Palestine, providing 10 million USD in aid for key factors like paying the salaries of 8,200 health workers.

The ministry said in a statement that Minister of State for Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Commonwealth and the United Nations Lord Tariq Ahmad will discuss the funding package in a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa at the Gaza Humanitarian Conference in Jordan later today.

The UK remains committed to providing serious, practical and enduring support to the Palestinian Authority as they take much-needed steps to enact reform, Lord Ahmad said.

An effective Palestinian Authority is vital to ensure lasting peace and progress towards a two-state solution but without international support, he continued.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has committed to implementing reforms across the Palestinian economy to fight corruption and tackle inefficiency.

Today’s meeting of vital regional par
tners will be another constructive step towards achieving tangible progress on this key issue.
