Turkish President Renews Call to Recognize the State of Palestine

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed his call to countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to recognize it, noting that “9 countries have recognized the State of Palestine since October 7, 2023.

Erdogan said in a joint press conference held today with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, during his visit to Belgrade: I renew our call to countries that have not yet done so to recognize the State of Palestine.”

Erdogan indicated that he discussed with Vucic the tragedy witnessed in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially Gaza and Lebanon, and stressed the need to stop Israel’s attacks that trample on human dignity.

He stressed that the main problem lies in Israel’s continued occupation of the Palestinian territories, and said that “it is necessary to establish an independent, sovereign and geographically unified Palestinian state, with East Quds as its capital, on the 1967 borders.”

The Turkish President added: Nine countries have recognized the State of Palestine since October 7, 2023, and I renew our call from here to the countries that have not yet done so to recognize it,” noting that the international community bears a primary responsibility in sending the right messages to Israel and ending the massacre it is committing.

Regarding relations with Serbia, which he is currently visiting, Erdogan pointed to the signing of 11 agreements with Serbia that will strengthen the foundations of relations, explaining that Turkey’s investments in Serbia have increased from one million dollars to 405 million dollars over the past 12 years.

Erdogan stated that the volume of trade between Turkey and Serbia has exceeded two billion dollars for two consecutive years. He stressed that the two countries are striving to achieve their goal of raising trade exchange to 5 billion dollars.

President Erdogan also touched on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying: “We have once again emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the Balkans region,” and said that he also emphasized to Vucic “the importance of Serbia adopting a constructive approach regarding overcoming the political fragility in Bosnia and Herzegovina as soon as possible.”
