Turkish Intelligence Announces The Killing Of A Prominent Leader Of PKK In Northern Iraq

Turkish intelligence announced the killing of a prominent leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in a security operation carried out on the outskirts of the city of Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq.

Turkish intelligence stated in a media circular today, Wednesday, that the so-called Mazloum Ozturk was one of the prominent leaders of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, as he was training the organization’s members on assassination operations and carrying out terrorist operations against Turkey.

Turkish intelligence confirmed in its circular that intelligence service units discovered the transfer of Mazloum Ozturk, who belongs to the PKK, from Turkey to Europe in August 2022. He had a pseudonym “Berkhoydan Ciyager” within the organization, and he practiced various activities within the framework of an invitation from the entity known as the “Congress of the Kurdistan Democratic Society in Europe.”

It explained that Mazloum Ozturk moved from France to the organization’s areas and began carrying out armed activities in January 2023. He received assassination training in order to target Turkish forces, and after monitoring his movements in the countryside of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Turkish intelligence carried out a precise operation in the area and was able to kill Ozturk.

Turkish intelligence indicated in its circular that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) organization was looking for alternative means to recruit new cadres into its ranks after the intensive operations carried out by Turkish intelligence in both Iraq and Syria, where Turkish intelligence monitored the organization’s transfer of militants to European countries at first, and then transferred them to Iraq and Syria to carry out its operations.
