Turkey and Iraq discuss cooperation in energy and development


Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources / Alparslan Bayraktar / discussed with Mohammed Al-Najjar, Advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister for Investment Affairs, the two countries’ cooperation in the fields of energy and development.

Bayraktar said in a post on the “X” platform that he met in the capital Ankara today, Thursday, with Mohammed Al-Najjar, who is also the Executive Director of the Iraq Development Fund, where he discussed with Al-Najjar the ongoing cooperation between Turkey and Iraq in the field of energy, and the Development Road project.

The Turkish Minister of Energy confirmed the possibility of “transforming the Development Road project into an energy road that serves our region, through our electricity, oil and natural gas lines.”

On April 22, Turkey, Iraq, Qatar and the UAE signed a quadripartite memorandum of understanding in Baghdad for cooperation in the “Development Road” project, under the auspices of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S
hia Al-Sudani.

The “Development Road” project is a land and railway road extending from Iraq to Turkey and its ports, with a length of 1,200 kilometers inside Iraq, and aims to transport goods between Europe and the Gulf countries.
