Traffic Safety Technical Committee launches ‘Work Accelerators’ plan among government entities

The Traffic Safety Technical Committee, guided by the Joint Traffic Safety Committee led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has launched the “Work Accelerators” plan to improve traffic safety in the emirate.

The Joint Committee comprises members from the Integrated Transport Centre, the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, and the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi.

The Work Accelerators involve developing and executing interactive plans among teams from various relevant government entities in Abu Dhabi to tackle challenges and achieve ambitious objectives quickly.

The application of Work Accelerators to reduce fatalities is regarded as a contemporary practice that ensures swift accomplishment and takes advantage of modern technologies to achieve more favourable outcomes.

It promotes the integration and collaboration of national governmental and private efforts to provide immediate and urgent solutions to existing challenges, establish a timeframe for implementing plans, and then evaluate
the results.

The Work Accelerators prioritise intensive programmes in six key areas: analysing traffic accidents and extracting lessons learned; enhancing pedestrian and micro-mobility safety; ensuring delivery drivers’ safety; improving freight transport safety; addressing driver behaviour; and reviewing road speed limits.

The plan is structured into three stages as follows: Design by forming Work Accelerator teams, identifying challenges, and developing intensive programmes to achieve objectives; Acceleration by implementing design outputs in practice to accomplish team-assigned goals, ensuring rapid and tangible results; Delivery by achieving and measuring outcomes reached by government Work Accelerator teams, ensuring their sustainability.

Abdulrahman Al Shizawi, Head of the Traffic Safety Technical Committee, stated that the committee has established Accelerator Teams to create urgent plans that bypass routine procedures. The aim is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and resulting injuries, the
reby lessening the negative social and economic impacts and enhancing the quality of life in the emirate.
