The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemns the targeting of an UNRWA school in Gaza

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the brutal Israeli occupation bombing of an UNRWA school housing displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which led to the martyrdom of more than forty Palestinians and the wounding of large numbers of civilians, most of them women and children.

In a statement, the organization welcomed the decision of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to include Israel – the occupying power – on the list of violators of children’s rights in armed conflicts, and considered this an important step to support the rule of international law, end the culture of impunity with regard to Israeli war crimes, and ensure justice for Palestinian victims.

The organization called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and work to put an end to the ongoing Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people, and to take serious measures to ensure that the perpetrators of war crimes and genocide against the Palesti
nian people are held accountable, leading to the achievement of international justice.

The organization said in its statement that the Israeli occupation’s bombing of an UNRWA school is an extension of the ongoing crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and a flagrant violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Convention and relevant United Nations resolutions, as well as orders issued by the International Court of Justice.
