The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed full commitment to the Vienna Convention to regulate diplomatic relations among countries, noting that what the Swedish Embassy was exposed to in Baghdad is an act that cannot be repeated.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahhaf said in a statement, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms full commitment to the Vienna Convention to regulate diplomatic relations among countries, and renews its letter to resident diplomatic missions, that the Iraqi government is responsible for providing protection and security for diplomatic staff working in all missions.”
He added, “What the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden was subjected to in Baghdad is an act that cannot be allowed to be repeated, and that any similar act will be subject to legal accountability.”
