The Cyber Center in the National Security Advisory: Iraqi government institutions were not affected by the global shutdowns

The Cybersecurity Center in the National Security Chencellry confirmed today, Friday, that Iraqi government institutions were not affected by the global shutdowns.

The center stated, in a statement, that ‘Iraqi government institutions were not affected by the global disruption that struck Windows servers today, and our institutions’ systems operate normally and were not exposed to any negative impact, and the transportation and communications sector in Iraq was not affected by the global shutdowns.’

It added, “Technical systems around the world are witnessing massive disruptions amid suspicions that it is one of the largest cyberattacks in history.”

Here are some details about these malfunctions:

– British Sky News channel announced that it stopped broadcasting today due to a technical glitch.

– Disruptions at all airports in Spain.

– Malfunctions at German airports.

– Malfunctions at Edinburgh Airport, Scotland.

– Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Airport in the Netherlands announced that they had faced
cyber attacks.

– Malfunctions at American airports.

– The London Stock Exchange announced that its services were affected due to what happened.

– The British Railways Company announced malfunctions in its systems.

– Television channels announced a defect in their broadcast.

– International banks announced a defect in their systems.

– The largest train company in Britain announced that it may cancel all its routes.

– An interruption in the transmission of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and huge technical problems nationwide.

The US 911 Emergency Center receives tens of thousands of calls and faces intense pressure from callers.

It pointed out that ‘all of these malfunctions around the world are related to devices running on the Windows system,’ adding: ‘We at the Cyber Security Center are closely monitoring the situation and working in continuous coordination with the relevant teams to ensure the protection of information security and the safety of the technical infrastructure. ur partners to ensure that electronic transactions at Iraqi airports and data centers continue without interruption, we will continue to carefully monitor the situation and take all necessary measures to protect the systems.’

The center continued: ‘In this context, we recommend specialists in governmental and semi-governmental institutions to postpone any update process at the present time, given the instability of the Windows services infrastructure at the present time.’

It urged all institutions to “strengthen cyber protection measures and adhere to best security practices,” stressing “the importance of regularly updating systems and infrastructure, but in a thoughtful manner and in coordination with the competent authorities to ensure stable security performance.”

The statement emphasized “the necessity of educating employees about the importance of cybersecurity and acting cautiously when dealing with electronic messages and unknown attachments,” noting that “employee awareness and training constitutes
an essential part of the cybersecurity strategy and enhances the ability of institutions to confront digital challenges.”
