Chief Public Prosecutor Najm Abdullah Ahmed reviewed Iraq’s efforts to eliminate corruption and prevent all negative phenomena.
Ahmed said during the launch of the publication of the first report of the Trials Follow-up Program that the efforts of international organizations had an effective impact in helping Iraq combat corruption by providing technical support and training in the judicial field.
He added that this program was founded on solid scientific foundations and highlights the work of anti-corruption trials, diagnosing obstacles, improving their work, and also forming other specialized courts.
He confirmed the existence of cooperation between the Public Prosecution, the Integrity Commission and the government in the issue of combating corruption by developing a unified database for corruption cases, especially major ones, pointing out that legal measures will be taken against everyone who does not apply the law, especially in the issue of combating corruption.
He pointed out that there is a weakn
ess in the file of extradition of wanted persons by some countries, especially in the field of combating corruption and returning funds, and some lack of cooperation is due to political reasons.
He stressed the need to amend some legal legislation and enact new laws specifically to combat corruption, pointing out that the government is currently amending this area.
Ahmed concluded by saying that all observations and recommendations included in the report will be taken into account by the highest levels in order to combat corruption.
