Sweilam stresses keenness on partnership with Germany in water, climate issues


Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sweilam asserted Egypt’s keenness on enhancing partnership with Germany, especially in light of the two countries’ interest in water and climate change issues.

He made the remarks during a meeting Thursday with representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Stockholm.

The talks tackled a host of regional water issues and Germany’s role in supporting top priority water projects.

The minister reviewed Egypt’s efforts to implement projects for rationalizing water consumption, upgrading irrigation systems in addition to establishing huge plants for agricultural wastewater treatment.

He underlined the importance of Germany’s support for the African Center for Water and Climate Adaptation (PACWA) to train African cadres specialized in the field of mitigating climate change impact on water resources in Africa.

The talks also tackled coordination between Egypt and Germany within the framework of the 29th United Nations climate change confe
rence (COP29).
