Sweilam Highlights Importance Of Dealing With Overpopulation, Climate Change Challenges

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam underlined the importance of sustainability in the Arab region, especially in light of overpopulation and climate change.

He made the remarks during a celebration held at the Arab League HQ on the Arab Sustainability Day under the theme of ‘sustainable future of Arab region’.

Sweilam reviewed the efforts exerted by the ministry in confronting climate change in Egypt, especially securing water needs for various governorates.

He reviewed the efforts exerted by the state in major projects in agricultural sewage water treatment like Bahr el Arab station at 5.6 million cubic meters daily, Hammam station at 7.5 million cubic meters daily and Mahsama station at one million cubic meters daily.

He also reviewed the efforts exerted to protect northern coast with an environment-friendly materials.

He noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi allocated EGP 10 billion to upgrade water facilities.
