The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs called in Sweden Ambassador in in Doha Gautam Bhattacharyya in protest at the repeated burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in Stockholm earlier Thursday.
The Swedish diplomat was handed a protest note requesting the Swedish authorities to adopt the necessary measures for preventing recurrence of such despicable acts, according to a press release from the Ministry.
The Ministry expressed dismay over the sanctioning of such acts by the Swedish authorities under the pretext of freedom of expression.
It warns that such irresponsible behavior can foment hatred and religious discrimination, thus putting in jeopardy coexistence, peace, security and inter-faith dialogue, according to the statement.
The Swedish police had sanctioned another demonstration in front of Iraq Embassy in Stockholm where extremists burnt a copy of the Holy Quran, less than one month after a similar act outside a Stockholm mosque during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
