Sharjah Self-Defense finishes on top in 3rd Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship


SHARJAH: Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club came out on top in a fierce competition on the final day of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship – Round 3 No-Gi, held at Al Bait Metwahid, Sharjah. The action-packed day saw competitors leave everything on the mat, with Sharjah pulling ahead and securing the lead with precision and heart.

Sunday’s showdowns featured U16 and Youth category matchups. Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club stepped up to the challenge, showcasing relentless drive and pinpoint technique to claim the top spot. M.O.D UAE, who had been leading earlier, was forced into second place, while Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club held firm in third.

The closing day’s competitions were attended by Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council; Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club; Saeed Ali Al Ajil, Vice President of the Emirates Sports for All Federation; Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Se
cretary General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; Asma Al Azri, Executive Director of Family Cases Sector at Family Care Authority; and Mohamed Hussain Al Marzooqi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the UAEJJF.

Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council, said: ‘We’re proud to host the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Sharjah. The strong participation in a championship that holds such a special name is a great sign of the sport’s continuous growth.’

He added: ‘The support from families plays a big role in the success of these athletes. We are proud to see them making steady progress towards their dreams, which aligns with the country’s vision of empowering young people and giving them the best opportunities to excel.’

Mohamed Hussain Al Marzooqi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the UAEJJF, praised the success of the third round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship. He highlighted the strong participation of cl
ubs and academies across the country, which reflects the Federation’s success in promoting the sport, thanks to the limitless support of the nation’s leadership.

‘This championship plays a crucial role in empowering young athletes and developing their skills. The U16 and youth categories are the future of Jiu-Jitsu, and their impressive performances show their dedication to building a strong professional career and representing their country in future competitions.’

Rafael Vega, coach of Al Ain Club, said: ‘The athletes’ performance in the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Championship reflects their commitment and hard work in training. This championship provides a real opportunity to test their skills in a high-pressure competitive atmosphere, preparing them for future challenges. As coaches, we focus on developing their technical and mental abilities, ensuring they can handle pressure and think strategically inside and outside the ring.’

Salem Al Qubaisi of Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club, who won gold in the Youth Men’s 60kg category, added: ‘The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship is a major milestone in my career. Today’s intense competition and I executed everything I’d trained for. Jiu-Jitsu is not just about physical strength; it’s about building character and developing mental toughness. My goal is to secure the title with Al Ain Club.’
