Sharjah Ruler issues Emiri Decree establishing Judicial Council


SHARJAH: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree establishing the Judicial Council in the Emirate of Sharjah, headed by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

The Decree stipulated that a judicial council be established in the Emirate of Sharjah called the ‘Judicial Council’, which shall enjoy the legal personality and legal capacity necessary to achieve its objectives and exercise its powers. It shall have financial and administrative independence and shall be the supreme authority of the judicial system in the Emirate of Sharjah. It shall assist the Ruler of Sharjah in managing and organising the judiciary.

According to the Decree, the Judicial Council will be formed under the chairmanship of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, and the membership of each of the Chairperson of the Judicial Department; the Chairperson of the Sharjah Government Legal Department; the Chairperson of
the Court of Cassation; the Chairperson of the Judicial Inspection Department; and two members of the judiciary chosen by the Judicial Council.

A law shall be issued to organise the Judicial Council in accordance with the legislative procedures followed in the Emirate.
