Sharjah Ruler issues decrees establishing Public Prosecution, Judicial Department


SHARJAH: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree establishing the Public Prosecution in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The Decree stipulated that a judicial authority shall be established in the Emirate of Sharjah, called the ‘Public Prosecution’, which shall assume the authority of investigation and accusation before the competent courts in the Emirate and any other powers assigned to it by the Judicial Council. It shall enjoy the legal personality and legal capacity necessary to achieve its objectives and exercise its powers, and shall have financial and administrative independence and be affiliated with the Judicial Council.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan also issued an Emiri Decree establishing the Judicial Department in the Emirate of Sharjah.

According to the Emiri Decree, a department shall be established in the Emirate of Sharjah called the ‘Judicial Department’. It shall have the legal personality and legal capacity necessary to ac
hieve its objectives and exercise its powers. It shall have financial and administrative independence and shall be affiliated with the Judicial Council in the Emirate of Sharjah. It shall be responsible for organising and following up on the work of courts of all types and levels and judicial services in the Emirate in a manner that ensures the achievement of justice and the independence of the judiciary.

Two laws shall be issued to regulate the authority of each of the two entities in accordance with the legislative procedures followed in the Emirate.
