PORT LOUIS, 13th June, 2023 (WAM) — Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, met with Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of the Republic of Mauritius, as well as Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister, to discuss the relations between the UAE and the Republic of Mauritius, and opportunities to develop and enhance them for the benefit of the two countries. Sheikh Shakhboot conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as his wishes for further development and prosperity for the people of Mauritius. For his part, President Roopun conveyed through Sheikh Shakhboot his greetings to the UAE President and expressed his wishes of further growth and prosperity to the people of the UAE. The meeting took place during an official visit by Sheikh Shakhboot to the Republic of Mauritius, where he was welcomed by Georges Pierre Lesjongard, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities. The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries in areas of common interest. The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of climate action, in conjunction with the UAE hosting the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will be the first COP event after the Paris Agreement to conduct a global assessment of the progress made to achieve global climate goals. Sheikh Shakhboot also attended a number of events during this visit as part of the UAE’s commitment to strengthening ties with African states across the continent and its continuous efforts to promote peace, stability, and development in the region.
