Saudi Arabia successfully tests “air taxi”

Neom and Volocopter companies declared successful test flights for electricity-powered helicopters (eVTOL), “air taxi,” for the first time in the kingdom.

Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday the aircraft had been tested for a week after 18 months of cooperation among Neom, the Directorate General for Civil Aviation and Volocopter, indicating at a broad approach to establish a network for urban air mobility (UAM), free of emissions.

The test flights’ main goal was to examine how the craft could cope with the kingdom diverse climatic conditions and harmony with unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM).

Volocopter is a German aircraft manufacturer.

The Saudi company Neom, established in 2019, is renowned for executing the gigantic Neom development venture in the kingdom.
