BETHLEHEM – Ma’an – Five Israeli officials who spoke to the New York Times said that the attack on the heart of the Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh yesterday (Friday) took place after Israel received intelligence that Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah had arrived for a meeting with the party’s leaders in an underground compound in a Hezbollah stronghold.
Another Israeli source who spoke to the newspaper said that it may take weeks for the picture to become clear after the assassination, and Israel will be able to verify whether Nasrallah and other Hezbollah officials who were with him at the meeting were actually killed in the attack.
However, the Israeli military increasingly estimates that Nasrallah was killed in a bombing yesterday afternoon in the heart of the Beirut suburb.
