Red Crescent: Medical assistance and first aid Provided to more than 1.2 million Iraqi and foreign pilgrims


The Iraqi Red Crescent Society announced that it provided medical assistance and first aid to more than 1.2 million Iraqi and foreign pilgrims.

It said in a statement: “The Red Crescent teams provided health, medical and first aid services to (1,242,246) Iraqi and foreign pilgrims in the governorates of (Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf, Babylon, Muthanna, Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Wasit, Diwaniyah and Diyala) during the Arbaeen pilgrimage ceremonies of Imam Hussein.”

It added: “The Red Crescent’s volunteers and members provided health services and first aid through its health detachments, as the Red Crescent deployed more than (45) mobile and fixed medical detachments to provide services to pilgrims.”

The statement quoted the Director of the Health Department of the Iraqi Red Crescent, Ali Al-Moussawi, as saying: “The Red Crescent has developed a pre-plan to accommodate the millions of people heading to the city of Karbala to perform the Arbaeen pilgrimage, as it has prepared human, material and logistical resources
to provide health and awareness services.”

Al-Moussawi added: “The work of the Red Crescent teams continued for ten days, during which they provided health services, first aid and treatments, in addition to transporting emergency cases by deploying more than 20 ambulances and deploying 5 mobile hospitals to provide medical treatment and aid for suffocation cases due to high temperatures.”

He explained: “The Red Crescent teams provided potable water for the Husseini processions and equipped the processions with more than 125 thousand liters of water through the Red Crescent’s water tankers, in addition to the participation of the Red Crescent teams in street and procession cleaning campaigns, and more than 9 tons of waste were removed.”
