Public Prosecution Office dismantles a gang that smuggled drugs into Libya.

The Office of the Public Prosecutor announced on Thursday that the Public Prosecution Office had succeeded in dismantling a gang formation whose members deliberately brought psychotropic substances to Libya and traded in them.

The Office of the Public Prosecutor issued arrest warrants for 30 other people who were involved in planning illegal drug and psychoactive substance trafficking, as well as the arrest of 17 suspects, including several who worked at the Misrata sea port.

The Office stated that the gang had hidden a quantity of narcotic pills of the type Pregabalin in the city of Zliten so that it could organize their transportation to the city of Zawiya and then to the cities of Al-Ajailat and Zintan.

It added that the Informatics and Communications Control Department at the Public Prosecutor’s Office determined the destination of part of the traceable quantity and arrested its carrier in possession of three million tablets of Pregabalin.

The Office confirmed that the perpetrators deliberately used forged official documents with the approval of the competent authority to import large amounts of psychotropic substances through sea ports in order to facilitate their entry into the country several times without going through the monitored smuggling routes.
