President El-Sisi Speaks with US President Biden


President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call on Friday 16/8/2024 from US President Joe Biden to discuss the situation in the region and efforts to restore regional stability.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the two presidents reviewed the outcome of the round of negotiations held in Doha over the past two days, within the framework of implementing the joint Egyptian-American-Qatari statement, regarding reaching an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, exchanging hostages and detainees, and ending the humanitarian plight of the Palestinian people in Gaza. They agreed to continue and intensify joint efforts in the coming days to reach an agreement in this regard.

The two presidents also discussed the current regional situation. President El-Sisi stressed the continuation of Egyptian contacts with various parties in the region to urge non-escalation and self-restraint, in light of the gravity of the situation in the Middle East, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty of states and prevent
the region from sliding into a vicious cycle of confrontations and violence. This was valued by the US president, who also lauded the extent of continuous and joint communication and coordination, reflecting the strong and deep strategic relations between Egypt and the US.

The call also touched on the situation in Sudan. The President stressed Egypt’s position on the Sudanese crisis as well as Egypt’s keenness to cease fire urgently and its appreciation of all relevant initiatives to ensure Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity. This is in addition to the prevention of the bloodshed of the Sudanese people.
