Participants at WGS voiced strong agreement on crucial role of AI

DUBAI: Participants in the panel discussions at the World Governments Summit (WGS) in Dubai agreed on the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in modernising government jobs and promoting economic growth.

In a conversation entitled ‘Who Will Shape the Future of AI?’ with Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stressed that investing in AI is a cornerstone of the economic future, noting that building the right infrastructure is essential to protecting local culture and maximising economic benefits.

He emphasised the importance of joint efforts to make access to AI more democratic and how to improve the efficiency of AI computing. He called on Arab countries to invest in strong AI industries and infrastructure, pointing to the enormous potential of this technology to improve sectors such as language, biology and physical sciences.

He added that the focus should be on the responsible
development and application of AI, taking into account the principles of safety, transparency and inclusivity.

Addressing concerns about the risks of AI, Huang downplayed them and pointed to the need for strategic investments in smart infrastructure and comprehensive policies that encourage open-source development.

In the same context, Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky, said during a session entitled “Can Government Facilitate a Moral Compass for the Future of Artificial Capabilities?” that there is a move to issue an AI law that aims to create an AI code of conduct for countries to follow.

He commended the United States and China for issuing many AI regulations and stressed the importance of taking a responsible approach to the development and use of AI, calling for cooperation between policymakers, civil society and companies to ensure that this technology is used for good.

Jonathan Ross, founder and CEO of Groq, stressed the importance of making AI technologies accessible to everyone, by creating AI c
entres and providing the necessary computing power to run these technologies. He noted that providing the necessary computing power to run AI technologies is essential to enable creativity and stimulate innovation.
