Minister of Water Resources discusses with the Turkish Ambassador the water releases coming to Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers

The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, discussed today, Monday, with the Turkish Ambassador, Ali Reza Konay, the water releases coming to Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

The Ministry said in a statement: “The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, met this evening with the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic to Iraq, Ali Reza Konay. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the water releases coming to Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, with a number of issues related to the Ministry’s work, including the implementation of the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries and approved by the Turkish parliament in 2021.”

It added, “They discussed the exchange of visits and official delegations at the ministerial and technical levels, and joint bilateral work on measurement stations on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.”

It emphasized, “The meeting was positive, during which the Ambassador promised to convey what happened during the meeting to the Turkish government in Ankara to clarify the repercussions of the severe drought that Iraq is complaining about, and the obligations of neighboring Turkey to secure Iraq’s fair share of water.”
