Minister: Egypt looks forward to greater role by G20 in propelling tax cooperation efforts

Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said Egypt is looking forward to a greater role by the G20 in advancing tax cooperation efforts for sustainable development; with a view to creating a fairer and more comprehensive global tax system to promote investment in basic services such as education, healthcare and infrastructure.

Maait made the remarks at a session titled “international taxes” held as part of meetings of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in Brazil.

‘We also welcome the United Nations role in establishing a fair global tax system … and we support coordination between the United Nations committee and the Organization for Security and Economic Cooperation in this field,’ the minister said.

On that score, he pointed out to the Egyptian finance ministry’s chairmanship of the United Nations committee in this regard.
