Lavrov: We Are Constantly Seeking To Develop Relations With Iraq That Extend For Eighty Years

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed today, Wednesday, that Russian-Iraqi relations extend for eighty years, and that his country is constantly seeking to develop these relations in all fields.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Head of the European Department, Ambassador Bakr Ahmed Al-Jaf, participated in the celebration held at the headquarters of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow, today, Wednesday, in the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and a number of heads and members of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow.

In his speech, according to the statement, the ambassador conveyed the thanks of the Iraqi government and First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for organizing this event on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Iraq and the Russian Federation, which began on September 9, 1944.

inted to the depth of the historical relations that bind the two countries and the various areas of cooperation between them, in addition to the great convergence of views on many regional and global issues.

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed in his speech during the celebration that Russian-Iraqi relations extend back eighty years, and that the Russian Federation is constantly seeking to develop these relations in all fields.

At the end of the celebration, the Head of the European Department and the Russian Foreign Minister toured an exhibition of photos, documents and correspondence documenting diplomatic relations between the two countries from their establishment to the present.
