Amman: Minister of Government Communication and Official Spokesperson Muhannad Mubaideen met Monday with Noha Abdul-Aziz Bawazir, new Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office in Jordan.
Mubaideen emphasized the “strategic” partnership between the Ministry and UNESCO in implementing various media programs and activities, wishing the new head of the cultural organization’s office success in her role in Jordan.
The minister said preparations are underway for the 13th Global Media and Information Literacy Week Feature Conference, which is scheduled in Amman on October 30 and 31 in cooperation with UNESCO. Jordan’s selection to host the global gathering, he said, underscores the Kingdom’s leading role in media and information literacy in the Arab world.
Mubaideen said he hoped the conference would enhance Jordan’s efforts to promote media and information literacy concepts, both locally and regionally, and build a comprehensive database of experts and pract
itioners in media education.
For her part, Bawazir said UNESCO chose Jordan as a venue of the conference due to its important and effective contribution to the Arab world, expecting its success as it tackles proposals and ideas from around the globe to promote media and information literacy in societies.
She also reiterated UNESCO’s commitment to supporting the media ministry and partners in developing a new national media and information literacy strategy that will positively impact the dissemination of relevant concepts within society.
