Jordan, Cyprus form follow-up team for joint energy agreements

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh and his Cypriot counterpart Giorgos Papanastasiou agreed to form a joint technical team to follow up on the implementation of the memoranda of understanding and develop an action plan to follow up the progress of work to ensure the desired progress and cooperation in the energy field. During a meeting on Wednesday, Kharabsheh underscored the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and opportunities for future cooperation in the fields of energy, renewable energy and energy efficiency. He briefed Papanastasiou on the reality of the energy and renewable energy sector in the Kingdom and the ministry’s achievements in raising the percentage of renewable energy contribution to electricity generation, the plans towards green hydrogen production and the Jordanian-Saudi-Iraqi electrical connection. For his part, Papanastasiou voiced his country’s willingness to cooperate on a regional electrical interconnection project, which will reflect positively on the two countries and the Middle East region as well as Europe, pointing to the need to activate the memoranda of understanding the two countries signed in the renewable energy field. He spoke about the developments his country made in the exploration of natural gas, pointing out that there is a great possibility that natural gas exists in three local fields.
