Israel to increase settlements in North West Bank

The Head of the West Bank Settlements Regional Council in the Israeli government Yossi Dagan presented a plan to increase the number of settlements in the northern West Bank from about 170,000 currently to one million by 2050, the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported Wednesday.

“The plan, presented to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu includes new cities, industrial areas, a hospital, a railway and an airport in the north of the West Bank,” the agency quoted an Israeli website as saying.

The website stated that the settlement council hired engineers and consultants to develop the unannounced plan for more than a year, aiming to increase the number of settlers during the next three decades.

It also pointed out that the outlines of the plan were drawn up during a central annual conference of settler leaders 10 months ago, without revealing the staff or planners.
