Iraq and Iran discuss the issue of Iranian gas dues and the continued provision of it to avoid a shortage in the supply of electric power

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed today, Thursday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Amir Hossein Abdollahian, the issue of Iranian gas dues and the continued provision of it to avoid a shortage in the supply of electric power, especially in the summer, and work will be done to overcome the obstacles that prevent that.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Amir Hossein Abdollahian, on the sidelines of his participation in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is being held in Baku from 5-6 July 2023, and discussed with him ways to advance The prospects for bilateral cooperation and strategic coordination between the two countries towards regional and international issues.

The Foreign Minister stressed that the stability of relations in the region is in the interest of the two countries as well as the region, referring to the security commitment that was recently signed between the two sides and its entry into force.

The statement indicated that the issue of the Shatt al-Arab and the demarcation of the borders were discussed, and work is continuing by the technical teams between the two sides.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister affirmed that the relations between the two countries are at their best, and that the various files between the two sides are progressing in a good condition, extending his thanks for the role of Iraq and its government, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, in normalizing relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
