Interior Ministr: Economy, investment facilities top priority

Interior Minister Mazen Faraya said Saturday that the economy is a top priority of the ministry, pointing to new measures to enhance its developmental role, especially in the governorates, and pledging facilities to business owners and investors. He said in remarks at a meeting of the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) that administrative governors have been directed to reach out to local and foreign investors to provide facilities to their businesses, address any obstacles and protect their investments. Faraya said his ministry’s key role is safeguarding the national economy besides security to protect the people and those residing in the Kingdom. He pointed out that most of the ministry’s services are electronic, and it aspires to make them fully electronic by year’s end in order to ease dealings for both citizens and business owners. Among key facilities for investors and arrivals in the Kingdom, he said, are the five-year e-visa, which applies to many countries, as well as residency procedures for Arab investors and entry permits for holders of the US and European (Schengen) visas. JBA President Hamdi Al-Tabbaa said a competitive and attractive business environment is the key to successful and prosperous economic activities, adding that investment legislation is necessary to address investment hurdles and lure in foreign capital. He noted the Interior Ministry’s important role to achieve economic goals, calling for setting up a special committee to facilitate residency for foreign investors and ptovide support for companies.
