India commemorates 100 years of its participation in Olympic Games

In preparation for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games this week, India has launched a special commemoration of 100 years of its participation in the Games.

Coinciding with this commemoration, India has also curated a special exhibition called ‘Genius of Sport,’ which celebrates life and legacy of Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern-day Olympic movement.

The twin commemoration is part of a trilogy that includes the first-ever ‘India House’ at the Paris Olympics and the Indian Conservatory of Paris, which is curating a series of Indian cultural events at the Olympic Fan Zone in the proximity of the games.

The idea of an India House grew out of the 141st session International Olympic Committee (IOC), which was hosted by India in October last year.

The Indian Olympic Association said in a press release that ‘Olympic Hospitality Houses serve as a platform for participating countries and as a space for fans to celebrate and support their athletes during competitions. They also act as a home away fr
om home for athletes and their families during the games.’

The India House will open on 27th July and will function until 11th August. Among its highlights is Bollywood Day on 28th July ’embracing the magic of Indian cinema, when the culture, music, and energy of India’s Hindi film industry come to life,’ according to an India House announcement.
