Grant Shapps replaces Ben Wallace as UK Defense Minister

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appointed Grant Shapps as defense minister, replacing Ben Wallace who resigned after four years in role.

The British Prime Minister also appointed MP Claire Coutinho as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, replacing Grant Shapps.

Sunak is expected to announce partial changes in his government, with no expectations in name changes of major ministries.

British Defense Minister Ban Wallace announced last month his intention to resign from his position within a few weeks, and standing down as an MP at the next election.

British media linked Wallace’s decision to his failure of convincing his country’s allies to nominate him as Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Wallace held the position for the longest period of all the defense ministers, as he assumed his role in July 2019 after serving as Minister of Security.
