Gov’t continues to support, promote women’s issues-Abdullat

Director of Human Rights Unit at Prime Ministry, Khalil Abdullat, said the Cabinet’s approval of Jordanian National Plan to activate UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security for 2022-2025, is in line with the Royal vision to enhance women’s participation in the political, economic and social fields. Abdullat made the remarks during a consultative meeting held Sunday, as part of a series of consultations held by the government to prepare the national report within the framework of the 4th annual periodic review mechanism for human rights, with Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) and supporters of women’s rights in Jordan. On official steps taken so far, Abdullat said the government amended a slew of legislations to align with women’s issues and expand their political participation by changing system of political, economic and administrative reform. He also noted the government relies on the national consultations to draft reports, , as Jordan has so far ratified multiple international agreements. In reviews of human rights situation for 3 past years, Jordanian authorities approved 149 out of 226 recommendations in the third report of 2018, which dealt with issues related to women, their protection and promotion of their participation in public life. Moreover, Abdullat said the Kingdom’s endorsement of these recommendations reflects the state’s commitment and seriousness to consolidate human rights principles. This effort, he noted, is based on His Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision and his continuous directives to the government to move towards ensuring greater protection of women’s rights and strengthening their social role.
