GCC chief blasts repeated desecration of copy of Holy Quran in Sweden

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jassem Al-Budaiwi condemned in the strongest terms the deliberate provocations involving Muslims with another desecration of a copy of the Holy Quran in front of Iraq Embassy in Stockholm on Thursday.

Such despicable and unacceptable actions transgress the sentiments of Muslims around the globe, he said in a press release, urging the Swedish authorities to act urgently for halting such acts and bringing to extremists to book.

Al-Budaiwi noted that such incendiary acts, which are a stark violation of the principles of tolerance and freedom of faith, reflect malice, hate and extremism.

He recalled the resolution on “Countering religious hatred constituting incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence,” adopted recently by the United Nations Human Rights Council. The GCC chief urged all countries of the world and international organizations to adopt legal steps for preventing such irresponsible acts and implement the provisions of international conventions on freedom of faith.
