France accuses Russia of threatening world food security

France on Thursday condemned Russian attacks aimed at demolishing Ukrainian ports and agricultural infrastructures to undermine efforts by “the international community” to transfer food to poor countries.

The foreign ministry in a statement condemned the horrific attack on a market in Donetsk and drone attacks on a port in Odessa.

Russia, through its intentional targeting of the markets and the populations, proves guilty anew of carrying out “war crimes in line with its terrorist strategy that should be retaliated for,” the ministry said in a statement.

It accused Moscow of adopting a policy of blackmail, citing in particular the attacks on the port in Odessa with aim of obstructing Ukraine’s exports of grain and food supplies.

The statement has affirmed that Paris will continue “to boost the international food security,” whereas Russia “has been exploiting it as a political arm in an unjustified and illegal war.”
