Foreign Ministry: A delegation from water resources will visit Ankara this month to discuss the water situation

Baghdad -The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, today, Wednesday, an expected visit by a technical delegation from the Ministry of Water Resources to Ankara in the middle of this month to discuss the water situation and all outstanding issues between the two sides.

A statement by the Ministry stated that the Iraqi Ambassador to Ankara, Majid Al-Lajmawi, met today, Wednesday, with the Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumqli, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the capital, Ankara, and during the meeting, they discussed ways to develop relations between the two countries.

According to the statement, the Ambassador expressed his aspiration to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially with regard to water and agriculture, and to activate the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in the field of water.

Al-Lajmawi invited reputable, experienced Turkish companies and specialists to provide Iraq with the latest techniques and modern technology to achieve optimal water management by rationalizing water consumption, which Iraq seeks to achieve in accordance with the directions of the Iraqi government, in which the water file is a priority in its work through the shift from open irrigation to pipe irrigation and lining, using modern technologies through the assistance of reputable international companies.”

According to the statement, the Ambassador stressed the need for serious cooperation to reach solutions and exchange visions and ideas, noting that there is a visit by a technical delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources to Ankara in the middle of this month to discuss the water situation and all outstanding issues between the two sides.

For his part, the Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry expressed his country’s full readiness to cooperate with Iraq to implement projects using developed techniques and technology that would improve the country’s water system and reduce the effects of water scarcity, expressing his country’s readiness to implement the memorandum of understanding in this field, sending an official invitation to the Minister Agriculture Abbas Jabr Al-Alawi to visit Ankara within the framework of strengthening relations between the two neighboring countries.
