Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam on Tuesday 19/3/2024 followed up water resources and irrigation projects in the governorates of North Sinai and South Sinai.
The minister was briefed on the North Sinai Development Project, which comprises the Bahr al-Baqar treatment plant and land reclamation in North and Central Sinai.
Bahr al-Baqar station is the largest farming waste water treatment station in the world with a daily capacity of 5.6 million cubic metres, the minister said.
Seventeen development and residential complexes in North and South Sinai have been set up with underground wells, arable land, homes, and administrative and service facilities, the minister said.
Regarding the North Sinai development project, the minister said work is underway on 24 intakes on the Sheikh Jaber Canal to irrigate ??125,000 feddans (acres).
Extensive flood prevention work has been undertaken in North and South Sinai will 566 structures – dams, barriers, artificial canals, lakes, underground tanks,
basins, bridges, crossings, and spillways, Sewilam said, adding that these structures will collect rainwater for Bedouin communities in the vicinity.
