FM reiterates Jordan’s stance on Palestinian cause in House session

Chairmen of the Lower House Palestine Committee, MP Fayez Basbous, and its Foreign Affairs Committee, MP Khaldoun Haina, expressed condemnation and denunciation of Israel’s actions in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, which are “criminal, terrorist and violate all international laws and human rights.” During a House oversight session, which was chaired by its Speaker, Ahmed Safadi, and in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Bishr hasawneh and the Cabinet, the two lawmakers demanded the need to take “firm” measures to confront Israeli hardline actions, which threatens the region’s security. For his part, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, said Jordan’s position on the Palestinian issue is “clear,” referring to the Kingdom’s unaltered stances on Palestine and Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian sanctities. Jordan, Safadi noted, was and will continue to support Palestinian people, make every effort in this regard and take all the steps to counter Israeli practices that deprive Palestinians of their right to freedom, statehood and sovereignty and prevent them from practicing their religious rituals freely in accordance with all international laws. In addition, he noted Jordanian diplomacy is “aware” of the magnitude of the danger represented by Israel’s measures, aggressions and violations, not only with regard to Al-Aqsa Mosque, but also with all Palestinian lands, including settlement expansion, house demolitions and displacement of Palestinians from their homes. Continuing: “Jordanian diplomacy worked and is still working, not only as a response to the Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, but is active continuously as Jordan firmly believes that if the Palestinians do not restore their full rights, the region will never enjoy peace.” Ending Israel’s occupation is the only way to achieve peace, he noted, indicating that de-escalation is not a final goal, but rather as a step towards progress towards a solution that restores the full legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
