Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met on Thursday, September 26, with the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The Foreign Minister began the meeting by congratulating his French counterpart on his appointment and the formation of the new French government. He expressed his aspiration to continue strengthening the bilateral relations based on mutual respect and common interests, emphasizing Egypt’s reliance on France’s continued support within the European Union (EU), particularly regarding the European financing package.
Minister Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to de-escalate the situation in the region and achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. He highlighted Egypt’s ongoing international efforts to rally support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an
independent, sovereign, and contiguous Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as granting Palestine full membership in the UN.
Minister Abdelatty also stressed the need to halt the Israeli aggression on Lebanese territories and called for active countries to play their role in this regard, in order to prevent the confrontations from expanding into a wider regional conflict. Additionally, he indicated that the only way to resolve the current crisis in the Middle East is through achieving a comprehensive ceasefire, stopping the aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, and resorting to peaceful means to de-escalate the situation.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in Sudan, Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea. The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation to support efforts aimed at achieving stability and security.
