Fifth Dubai Course and Exhibition for Shoulder Surgery spotlights latest advancements

The Fifth Dubai Course and Exhibition for Shoulder Surgery, taking place from 25th to 27th October, continued on Sunday at the Mohammed Bin Rashid College of Medicine and Health Sciences, where participants discussed topics such as arthroscopic shoulder surgery, joint implants, fracture management, technological developments, and the introduction of modern techniques in shoulder surgery, including joint design, 3D printing, and innovations in robotic surgeries.

Dr. Osama Saleh, Secretary of the Arab Society of Shoulder and Attachment, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Injuries, and Chairman of the Conference, stated that, alongside the course, 120 doctors were trained over two days on optimal methods for shoulder joint replacement using artificial intelligence and robotics in advanced and complex cases, as well as laparoscopic surgeries. Additionally, a course was conducted to train physical therapists in rehabilitation techniques related to shoulder diseases and treatments. Dr. Saleh highlighted that major
shoulder issues include frequent dislocations, which often affect young people, tendon tears, and shoulder joint replacement, particularly in the elderly.

The training courses also featured three seminars for the industrial sector, with over 15 leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies participating as sponsors to review new principles and technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and endoscopic devices.

He explained that the conference covered, through 16 scientific sessions and 85 lectures, the latest global advancements in sports medicine and joint reimplantation, detailing region-specific requirements. He noted that the anatomy of Asian patients differs from that of Western or European patients, necessitating specially designed solutions tailored to the needs of Middle Eastern patients. The event also showcased difficult and complex cases to equip attending doctors with international skills and expertise.

Dr. Osama Saleh remarked that the conference has successfully created a p
latform that brings together doctors and specialists in shoulder surgery from around the world under one roof to discuss modern advancements and techniques in orthopaedic disease treatment. He emphasised that the conference continues to be a leading regional platform for fostering communication and collaboration between prosthetics suppliers and doctors from the region and beyond.
