The European Union Friday welcomed the World Health Organisation?’s (WHO) announcement that COVID-19 no longer constitutes a global health emergency “Finally, after more than 3 years, COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency. This is good news,” President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.
“This pandemic has had a heavy toll on people, our society and our economy. But we have successfully overcome it thanks to determined action at global, EU and Member State level, and to the resilience and solidarity of our citizens,” she said.
“Nevertheless, vigilance remains crucial. Although the pandemic has passed, it is clear that COVID-19 remains a global health threat and that it will be still part of our life for the foreseeable future,” she added.
