EU, Turkish presidents discuss Sweden’s NATO bid

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, Monday said he had a “good meeting” with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkiye on the eve of a NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

“Explored opportunities ahead to bring EU-TR cooperation back to the forefront and re-energise our relations,” he said on his twitter message tonight.

Michel said he has invited EU High Representative Josep Borrell and the European Commission to submit a report with a view to proceed in strategic and forward-looking manner in relations with Turkiye.

Moreover, the EU President commended Erdogan on the central role Turkiye played in brokering and ensuring the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

The two leaders also discussed Sweden’s accession to NATO.
