ERC reinforces its humanitarian and development initiatives in Syria


LATAKIA: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) is reinforcing its commitment to humanitarian and developmental programmes for the people of Syria. The Authority is actively engaged in distributing winter assistance to those impacted by the earthquake in the Latakia Governorate, intensifying relief efforts to address the subsequent humanitarian challenges.

During their visit to Syria, the ERC delegation, led by Khalfan Sarhan Al Rumaithi, Director of the Volunteer Department at ERC, distributed humanitarian aid, including food, winter clothing, and blankets, as part of the “Be Their Warmth” campaign. This initiative aims to help individuals cope with the harsh winter conditions and is conducted in collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).

The ERC coordinates closely with its Syrian counterpart to reach the most affected areas and support the most vulnerable groups affected by the earthquake’s repercussions.

In developmental projects, ongoing efforts are focused on completing the construction of 1,00
0 housing units for affected individuals distributed across seven locations in Latakia. Recently, 237 units were delivered in three sites, with the remaining 763 housing units scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of this year.

Under the “Galant Knight 2” operation, developmental projects include the “My School, My Identity” initiative, involving the maintenance and equipping of 40 government schools catering to 20,000 students at all educational levels.

Additionally, the “Education Knights” initiative encompasses the maintenance of Tishreen University in Latakia, providing it with 277 computers, 204 desks, 60 chairs for dentistry, and six mobile X-ray devices, benefiting 30,000 students.

Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, Acting Secretary-General of ERC, emphasised that the upcoming phase will witness the implementation of more humanitarian, developmental, and sustainable programmes in Syria. ERC has prepared a comprehensive plan to address the humanitarian needs of the Syrian population, reaffirming its c
ommitment to their welfare.

He stated that the ERC is dedicated to enhancing its response to affected individuals within its humanitarian commitment and solidarity responsibility with the earthquake victims in Syria. The Authority is actively working to restore normalcy in the affected areas, striving to meet the increasing needs of the affected individuals and contribute significantly to development and reconstruction efforts.
