EmiratesGBC and Global Green Growth Institute Unite to Propel UAE’s Urban Sustainability


DUBAI: The Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at advancing sustainable urban development in the United Arab Emirates. Through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the organizations will collaborate on initiatives designed to promote climate-resilient, inclusive, and green urban growth. This partnership will leverage various support mechanisms, including training and knowledge-sharing events, to enhance the built environment and drive the UAE’s progress towards its Net Zero by 2050 commitments.



According to Emirates News Agency, this collaboration will focus on addressing challenges associated with green project implementation and thought leadership, drawing on insights from both the public and private sectors. By combining their expertise and networks, EmiratesGBC and GGGI aim to reinforce green growth efforts and urban sustainability initiatives across the UAE. The partnership will prioritize innovative solutions for green buildings, sustainable infrastructure, and climate-resilient cities.



The signing ceremony for the MoU featured key figures such as EmiratesGBC Chairman Khaled Bushnaq and CEO Abdullatif Albitawi, alongside GGGI’s Middle East and North Africa Regional Director, Mahamadou Tounkara. Notably, representatives from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) also attended, highlighting the significance of this partnership in furthering the nation’s sustainability agenda.



Khaled Bushnaq expressed the strategic importance of the collaboration, emphasizing how it will facilitate knowledge exchange and capacity building. He highlighted the need for concerted efforts across all sectors to achieve the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 target and noted that partnering with GGGI will expedite the transition towards a net-zero built environment through the adoption of green building practices.



Mahamadou Tounkara remarked on the UAE’s leadership in sustainable development and voiced pride in supporting the country’s Net Zero by 2050 goals through this partnership. He stressed the shared commitment to innovative solutions for green buildings and sustainable infrastructure, and the empowerment of stakeholders with necessary tools and resources.



The partnership will include various activities, such as capacity-building workshops, training programs, and knowledge-sharing platforms, to enhance the skills of professionals in the built environment sector. Pilot projects will also be undertaken to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of green building solutions, fostering dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders across different sectors.
