Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the Gaza Humanitarian Response Conference, which opened Tuesday on the shores of the Dead Sea.
El-Sisi urged for the release of all hostages and detainees and insisted that infrastructure and United Nations representatives must not be targeted. He expressed gratitude to Jordan for hosting the critical international conference.
El-Sisi emphasized the urgent need for Israel to end its siege on Gaza, halt the use of starvation as a weapon, and remove all barriers to the swift entry of humanitarian aid through all crossings.
He also demanded Israel’s immediate withdrawal from the Palestinian city of Rafah, warning of the severe repercussions of ongoing military actions in the area.
The Egyptian president called for robust support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to ensure the provision of safe havens and aid to Palestinians.
He high
lighted the importance of creating conditions for the immediate return of displaced Palestinians to their homes.
El-Sisi welcomed the recent UN Security Council Resolution No. 2735 and stressed the importance of its full implementation. He reiterated the necessity of protecting civilians, infrastructure, and UN personnel in Gaza, as mandated by international law and humanitarian standards.
He noted the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, attributing it to a deliberate campaign of destruction. El-Sisi described the moral and material siege faced by the Palestinian people as a stain on the global conscience.
In closing, El-Sisi called on the international community to support a two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He commended countries such as Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia for recognizing the Palestinian state and urged others to follow suit, underscoring the need for justice, peace, security, and hope.
